Wilderness Society: 50 Years
Australia Post
Australia Post issue marking 50 years since the founding of the Wilderness Society, one of Australia's leading conservation groups. The movement began in Hobart in 1976, when a small group met to save the Franklin River in south-west Tasmania from being dammed for hydro-electric power; the campaign of blockades, rallies and political action ended in success after UNESCO World Heritage listing in 1982 and a High Court battle. Two $1.85 stamps, issue date 6 October 2026, withdrawal 1 May 2027.
